“What is that feeling when you’re driving away from people and they recede on the plain till you see their specks dispersing? – it’s the too-huge world vaulting us, and it’s good-bye. But we lean forward to the next crazy venture beneath the skies.” Jack Kerouac, On the Road.

“Travel is fata…
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” Mark Twain
Southeast Asia Adventure At Its Close-Back in Bangkok
Survived the bus journey from Siem Reap to Bangkok yesterday. I was struck down with stomach issues, nothing horrible. But needless to say, my tummy was not happy that we were driving down bumpy roads, swerving with traffic and breaking without warning. I had front and center seat by our bus driver, who might have a bit of road rage issues but was overall a very assertive driver. He didn’t speak a word of English but we had a few good laughs when he would narrowly miss hitting something like a freight truck that swerved into our lane, which is the left lane in Thailand! We left out hotel in Siem Reap around 1:00 am and arrived in Bangkok around 1:30 pm. So we just kind of lazed around the lobby for a while, fending off mosquitos and sitting directly in front of the fans. We stopped the bus last night around 4:30, where the driver got out at a local coffee shop, a wooden building with about twenty other men inside drinking rich black coffee and soup. He stayed in there for over an hour, while he shut off the bus and left us there with no air flow. Thinking back it was kind of comical but at the time I was deeply confused and frustrated. I finally got out and sat on the pavement until the sun peaked out from the horizon. When we arrived in Bangkok we took a few hours rest at Shari’s, a splendid apartment across the street from the international school she works at. Then we took the bikes down the road to a bamboo hut restaurant along a swamp, with high-rise apartments set against a red sunset in the background. We ordered sodas and pad thai and watched the huge catfish swim in the pond below. A huge lizard was above us in the tree, it looked exactly like a crocodile! Today is rest, pool, and relaxation after the last few busy days.

Stand Still
This song is repeatedly running through my head, wherever I am.
